SUMMARY:Eastern Sierra History Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association will host the first Eastern Sierra History Conference in Bishop at the Tri-County Fairgrounds. The conference will feature presentations from local and other historians about people\, culture and traditions of the region.\nBob Gardner\, Executive Director of ESIA\, stated\, "Visitors to our Eastern Sierra bookstores are curious about the history of this region and want to know how they can get more information on local culture and traditions. We decided to sponsor a conference featuring noted scholars\, historians\, local personalities\, and authors to educate the community\, and to remind everyone about the rich history of this area."\n\nGardner noted the conference is also well-timed with Inyo County's 150th Sesquicentennial. The presentations will cover the entire Eastern Sierra\, but a special focus will be on Inyo County. Almost 20 different speakers are expected to participate in the two-day event. The Eastern Sierra ski culture\, the water saga\, petroglyph art\, climbing history\, and mining claims are just a few of the topics scheduled at this point.\n\nThe conference will run all day Friday\, October 28 and Saturday October 29\, with a dinner Saturday evening featuring local authors and their historical books. Field trips will be held Sunday Oct. 30. The cost of the conference will be $125 including the dinner. Single day charges will be $65 for Friday and $85 for Saturday. Reduced rates will be available for students. The field trips may have a small additional charge.\n\nRegistration for the conference will be available in early June through the ESIA website at esiaonline.org. For more information contact ESIA at (760) 873-2411.
