Eastern Sierra Land Trusts Land and Legacy Celebration!

Our 21st Anniversary Lands & Legacy Celebration is just a couple of weeks away, whether you can join us for the in-person component, or virtual events, we look forward to discussing and celebrating Eastern Sierra conservation with you.

ESLT's 21st year has been energizing and productive - just months ago, we permanently protected the historic Centennial Point Ranch in Bridgeport Valley.

Paddle Raise - August 25th, 6-7 pm

Matt Lee-Ashley, Chief of Staff for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, will speak at our Paddle Raise on the 25th. Matt has an extensive, multi-agency background in environmental protection, and will discuss the role of land trusts in our collective effort to combat climate change and meet California's 30x30 goals. Matt's role and voice are all the more exciting against the backdrop of the landmark climate legislation that congress passed this week.

If you would like to join on the 25th, registration is open to participate in the Paddle Raise from 6-7 pm. All donations will go towards protecting the Eastern Sierra land and wildlife that define this incredible region, and that are integral to the future of California's climate change strategy.

Prior to the Paddle Raise, ESLT is co-hosting a virtual wine tasting with Raeburn Winery from 5:00-5:45 pm. We encourage participants in the tasting to invite community members over and enjoy the delicious California wines and conversation as a group. We are thrilled that Raeburn's founder and ESLT supporter, Derek Benham, is joining us for what will be a great start to the evening. Space is limited for the wine tasting - register by Friday, August 12th to secure your spot and receive 3 bottles of Raeburn wine and four commemorative ESLT wine glasses.

BioBlitz - August 21st, 8-10 am

We can't wait to get onto the land with you again! ESLT is hosting an in-person Citizen Science BioBlitz event on Sunday, August 21st from 8-10 am. We will meet at the Bishop Paiute Reservation Conservation Open Space Area (COSA). The COSA is 24.8 acres of wetlands and walking paths that have been set aside by the Bishop Paiute Tribe for conservation, learning, recreation, and science.

This event will be a great way to meet community members, engage in Citizen Science data collection, and speak to the local scientists who help all of us understand the complexities of the Eastern Sierra. You can read more here, or email claire@eslt.org to RSVP.

Author Chat With David Carle - August 23rd, 6 pm

Join us for a Zoom chat with local conservationist, author, ranger, educator, and Eastern Sierra lover, David Carle.

At 6 pm on the 23rd, David will discuss fire in Eastern California while presenting from his recently published 2nd edition of Fire in California. We are thrilled to have David discuss fire, a topic that affects all, and of which he has been at the forefront for decades. You can read more and RSVP here.

A prolific author, David's books about California have illuminated the state's history, ecology, people, and future. His dedication to protecting the Eastern Sierra is longstanding. From 1982 through 2000, at the Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve, he shared the unit ranger position with his wife, participating in the long effort to protect the Eastern Sierra inland sea from the effects of stream diversions to Los Angeles. He also taught biology and natural history courses for several years in the 1990s at Cerro Coso Community College in Mammoth Lakes, and served as President of the Mono Basin Historical Society.
