Food Waste Prevention, Recovery, and Redistribution Taskforce
Are you interested in learning about individual and community-wide efforts to reduce food waste and increase nutrition security within the Eastern Sierra?
The Town of Mammoth Lakes, CalFresh Healthy Living, and Mammoth Disposal Company have partnered to create the Food Waste Prevention, Recovery, and Redistribution Taskforce. The purpose of this group is to improve coordination efforts that minimize, rescue, and redistribute excess food. We strive to create a more straightforward approach to keeping edible food out of our waste stream and getting healthy food to residents with low incomes.
Topics we discuss will range from community compost initiatives to building capacity for local programs to food donation opportunities. We will explore SB 1383, also known as the California Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Program, which mandates the surrounding areas strengthen their existing infrastructure for edible food recovery and distribution.
Join us in turning food waste into opportunities to help our community thrive!
