About Us

Our mission is to educate and inspire people about Eastern Sierra public lands through high quality interpretive products, exhibits, and programs. Originally founded in 1970 as the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, Sierra Forever is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with local, tribal, and federal governments and fellow nonprofits to provide interpretive education about the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin landscapes. We hope to translate the beauty and uniqueness of public lands for people to develop a deeper appreciation of these places, and in turn, become better stewards.

Sierra Forever operates bookstores in visitor centers and ranger stations in collaboration with agency partners that include the Inyo, Humboldt-Toiyabe, Tahoe and Klamath National Forests, Death Valley National Park, Devils Postpile National Monument, Manzanar National Historic Site, and the Bureau of Land Management-Bishop Field Office. We also lead interpretive hikes and presentations, hold certified interpretive guide trainings, offer hands-on educational opportunities for kids, and lead land stewardship and conservation efforts.

Each year in October, Sierra Forever hosts the Eastern Sierra History Conference, designed to enhance awareness, enrich knowledge, and generate recognition of the culturally and ecologically diverse and complex heritage of the Eastern Sierra.
