About Us

Quality of life is the reason. We have all been lured to Mammoth because of the never-ending adventure of life and the desire to push the limits and capabilities of our minds and bodies during these adventures. Whether you live in Mammoth year-round or you travel clear across the world for a short visit, we all have this in common. Adventure.

For us coffee is a continuous adventure, always in pursuit of new brewing methods and taste profiles. A never-ending exploration of what is possible in coffee roasting and preparation. We take great pride in sharing all of this with the people we love in the place we enjoy the most.

Our passion and love of coffee began in the mid 90s. Throughout the years our family has worked in the coffee industry as baristas, managers and roasters. Then, in 2008, our passion for coffee took over everything and we started Black Velvet Coffee as a small 11-pound batch craft roaster with a dream of roasting amazing coffees with excellence and consistency. Over the years we sold coffee at farmers markets, dropped coffee on our neighbor’s doorsteps, built a coffee cart and served coffee at our local concerts and events, and in 2011, opened the espresso bar in our home town of Mammoth Lakes.

In December 2015 we opened The Wine Bar, renovating the 2nd and 3rd levels above The Espresso Bar. The Wine Bar is built around our roaster. We add a 500 bottle temperature controlled wine cellar to keep all of our wines in the perfect environment at all times.
