Indigenous Cultural Celebrations
Indigenous Cultural Celebrations at Cerro Coso Community College!
Join the Mammoth Lakes Foundation and Cerro Coso Community College Bishop and Mammoth Lakes- Mammoth campus on Wednesday, November 18th, for a special afternoon celebrating Indigenous cultures, traditions, and storytelling in honor of Native American Heritage Month!
We are excited to welcome back the Parker Family for our 3rd Annual Indigenous Cultural Celebrations at the Mammoth campus, featuring a hands-on basketweaving workshop alongside a special film screening and Lunch & Learn hosted by Cerro Coso Community College.
?? Traditional Native American Basketweaving Workshops
?? 12:00–3:00 PM
Join world-renowned Miwuk/Pomo basketweaver Ursula Parker Jones for a unique opportunity to learn traditional Native American basketweaving techniques passed down through generations of her family. Participants will work with natural materials, including tule reeds, juncus, and willow, to create their own twined baskets to take home!
The Parker Family has been instrumental in preserving and sharing Indigenous basketweaving traditions throughout Yosemite and the Eastern Sierra, and we are honored to welcome them back to share their knowledge, artistry, and cultural heritage with our community.
?? $40 donation to cover materials and instruction. Limited scholarships are available upon request. All experience levels are welcome!
?? "Finding Hozho" Film Screening & Lunch & Learn
?? 12:30–2:30 PM
In partnership with Cerro Coso Community College's Office of Equity & Inclusion, we invite you to a special screening of "Finding Hozho," a film exploring Indigenous perspectives, cultural identity, and the importance of finding balance and harmony. Lunch will be provided by Cerro Coso Community College as part of this special Native American Heritage Month program.
?? Event Location:
Dave & Roma McCoy Learning Center
Cerro Coso Community College – Mammoth Campus

Both events are open to students and community members! Whether you're interested in learning a traditional art form, exploring Indigenous storytelling through film, or simply connecting with our community, we hope you'll join us for this meaningful afternoon of cultural learning and celebration.
